Small Beginnings but God is BIG!

Zechariah 4: 6-10   “Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.  Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’

Then another message came to me from the Lord: “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”

Reading this scripture gave me hope in our new beginnings at “The Ranch”

Why does it give me hope, because we can’t rebuild this new ministry by force or on our own strength but if we rely on the spirit, it can be built.  Also, we have experienced mighty mountains that have been in front of us but we have also seen these mountains leveled.

When we were trying to get the Boys Ranch started years ago, there were several mountains that appeared in front of us, but when we trusted in God and waited on HIM, He leveled those mountains.

The foundation of this ministry has been laid and it will also be completed.

A couple weeks ago we had our first Got Guts camp without boys living with us.  This camp was the smallest since the first camp in 2007.  But God showed us that it may be small beginnings but He is a BIG GOD!

God Blessed this camp in BIG ways.  The three boys that were here made a life altering decisions. Two of them accepted Jesus and one re-dedicated his life to Jesus.  They want to make better choices in their life and share Jesus with others.  Please pray for Alex, Chase and Clayton as they try to change their friends and lifestyle.

How are you doing?  Are you starting something new in your life?  If you are, have hope that when God is in it, all things are possible!

Matthew 19:26 “Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

all things possible

God’s perfect timing

I’m going to be honest, I tend to be restless when waiting for that 12:00 hour of God’s. The last year I have been struggling with waiting.  Even though on my personal blog I wrote a post called “Be Still” in February, I have still struggled.    I feel I haven’t been very good at waiting lately.  I know God is okay with this change at the Ranch because HE continues to Bless the Ranch in ways we would never guess.  He continues to show us HE is still in this.

gods timing

My faith has been tested a little in the last year.  I have at times felt like I’m not doing anything and why are we still here if we aren’t helping boys.  That has been our life for 25 years.  It’s a huge change and I’ll be honest I do miss the boys.  But at the same time I know that God told us it was okay to let go of that part of this ministry.

It’s time now to move forward and for me not to be discouraged about that chapter closing, rather be encouraged that HE is ready to have us begin the new chapter.

gods perfect time

So in saying all this, are you ready to watch God, work more miracles at “The Ranch”?

WAIT – We don’t like it….do you?

This post was previously posted on 8/17/2016

Wait
Verb:  Stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens.
Noun : a period of waiting.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

bald-eagle-1541817_1_origWhen we first started Miracles Can Happen Boys Ranch in April of 1992, we had to sell our vision that God had given us.  We took lots of phone calls from parents about their son’s having troubles.  When we would share with them more about our program they were excited until we told them their boy would be the first boy.  That was hard waiting for the first parent to have faith that her son would be okay in the hands of strangers.  We didn’t like waiting, we wanted to get started!  God what are you trying to teach us here?  We also had a hard time selling our vision to people and churches to get them to come along side of us and support us.  It was tough getting the ministry started.  I, Cathy, remember a time when we had no money and I had no idea what we were going to feed our family and the four boys we were entrusted with.  I went to the mailbox that day and there was a check that we were able to buy some groceries with.  Faith ministry is hard, but yet we would not want to trade what we have learned over the last 24 years for nothing.  We knew 24 years ago that God was calling us to start The Ranch, just like we knew April 2016 that God was telling us it was okay to stop the long term program here at the Ranch.  Do we know exactly what God is wanting us to do now?  NO.  Do we like to wait to see what it is HE wants us to do now?  NO.  Do we still trust that HE is in the middle of this and is in control of this?  YES.  He has dropped different people in our lives that need ministered to right now and we are just waiting to see what HE has for the future of The Ranch.

When I think about waiting I keep going back to the story of NOAH.  Can you imagine how he felt waiting for the rain that he was told was going to come?  Can you imagine waiting for the water to go down so they could get out of that stinky boat?  He waited even when people questioned him and ridiculed him about the rain coming.  He waited not knowing what his future was going to be like……  He did not lose faith.   I want to be just like Noah.  Do you think he kept questioning God and had some bad days?  I’m sure he did because nobody likes to wait.

It’s hard to know what to say when people ask us “What exactly are you doing now?”  Jim has come up with a great illustration of what it is we are doing right now.  How many of you have seen the movie “Facing the Giants”?  We have watched this every year for the last 10 years at our Got Guts Camp, so we know the scene quite well.  Let me give you a glimpse into that scene so you can understand what we are doing right now.

Revelations 3:7b – 8 “What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.  I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”
Jim says we are preparing the fields!  There is work all over the ranch property that has not got done, because there just wasn’t enough time in the day when we had the boys here full time.  Wait a minute, there still doesn’t seem like there is enough time in the day.  We are keeping busy here.  The Lord is not through with us yet, we still have an open door here and until the Lord moves us we are going to BLOOM right where he has planted us.  So if you are wondering what we are doing….we are just preparing the fields for something bigger that God has for “The Ranch.”

What about you how are you doing in your waiting game?  Are you Trusting HIM to help you through?  I would encourage you to read His word to help you through whatever it is you are waiting on, then you can mount on wings as eagles and continue running without becoming weary.

Still Serving Him,

Cathy Fry(for Jim and Cathy)

Define, Refine and Redefine!

Define:  to show or describe (someone or something) clearly and completely

  • Refine:  improve (something) by
  • makingsmall changes, in particular
  • make(an idea,theory,or method)
  • more subtle and accurate.

Redefine:to reexamine or reevaluate especially with a view to change

Since the beginning of the Ranch, we have tried to describe/define the vision of the Ranch.  It has been on our heart for several years having boys live at the ranch in the long term program.  As years have gone on we have refined some things by making small changes.  In 2007 we felt God was calling us to add summer camps. He has continued to refine us and this ministry.

Now we feel it is a time to redefine the ministry.

Is it easy? No.  Is it exciting?  Yes.  We are excited to see what God has in store for the Ranch.  He has provided for it and expanded it for 24 years.  Is HE closing the doors?  Are we closing the doors?  NO!  We will no longer be housing boys in a long term program.  However, we are reexamining and reevaluating this ministry, in the hopes that God will touch even more lives.

Change:   to give a different position, course, or direction to

Change is not easy, it is hard.  Please join us as we go through this change.  It’s almost like starting all over.

In 1992, Jim and I were excited, we were scared, we were overwhelmed and we were trusting in HIM.  Again, in 2016, Jim and I are excited, scared, overwhelmed and trusting in HIM!
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Thanks for your continued support in prayer, God Bless each and everyone of you.

Perseverance:   the quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult.

Character: one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual.

Ministry is hard, I’m going to be honest.  It can be downright difficult. Jim and I have been in ministry for almost 29 years of our 33 years of marriage.  (Youth group, Missouri boys ranch and this Ranch)  I am so thankful that God has given us a quality of perseverance, because without that quality we would not be where we are today with our character.  We would also probably be working a regular job and not be in ministry.

We know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character and character, hope, because we have seen it tons of times.  So today going through a difficult time, we are going to choose HOPE!

Hope:   to cherish a desire with anticipation

Our desire is that these boys would learn from their choices and turn down a different path.  We are going to cherish this with anticipation, that these choices are going to be life changing for these boys.  Can we see it right now?  No! But we are going to HOPE, and we are going to PERSEVERE through it all, even when it can be down right difficult!

Please pray for us to cherish this desire with anticipation and trust that GOD is a BIG GOD and HE will help us persevere through this time too!

What about you are you going through a hard time right now?  If so, persevere let it develop in you a character you will be proud of, and hope with anticipation that GOD is going to show up at the exact time HE needs to.  He is an all knowing God and He is in the middle of whatever you are going through.

Hoping with anticipation,

BIG ARMS…BIGGER ARMS!

I wrote this post back in September of 2014 on my personal blog and I wanted to share this now on the ranch blog.  I’m so glad he is carrying me right now while going through this spiritual trial here at the ranch!
Psalm 68:19 – 20a  “Praise the Lord; praise God our savior!    For each day he carries us in his arms. Our God is a God who saves!”
I think my hubby has BIG arms, and I feel so special when he holds me in them and wraps them around me.  He has held me several times in our 32 years of marriage, while listening to me laugh, cry, scream, be silent, or even argue. He has even carried me a few times with those BIG arms of his.  I remember the day he carried me into a rat infested trailer house that was the beginning of Miracles Can Happen Boys Ranch and told me ‘this is your new home!’  I’m so thankful that God has blessed me with him.  But even though he has BIG arms and he is my ROCK at times I still need God’s BIGGER arms to hold me or carry me.  When I look at the cross I think of HIM holding out his arms and waiting for me to run to him.  This race of life can be tiring. discouraging. frustrating. humiliating. gut wrenching. heartbreaking. and just plain overwhelming.  BUT GOD is running right beside me holding my hand, in front of me waiting for the baton and at the finish line with his arms open wide!  I praise HIM and thank HIM for saving me so I can experience those BIGGER arms!
Aren’t you glad that he carries you in his arms?  I don’t know that I could do this thing called life, if I didn’t know that I had his arms to rest in!

As I go to sleep tonight, I’m going to think about him carrying me through another day tomorrow.
